The behaviour is (afaik):
Every result that goes to an variable isn't displayed automatically.
Every result that doesn't go to an variable *is* displayed
automatically, as it would be otherwise lost. This behaviour holds for
the octave and obviously the matlab plugin, (at least some) other
TeXmacs plugins display their results always. (I can only test the
octave plugin, as I don't have matlab, but the matlab interface seems
to be derived from the octave plugin, as they are in large part
equivalent.) If you want to see the result of an assignment to
variable "var" you have use disp(var) afterwards (or change the
plugin).
