Is that

[enter math mode] Esc i $ lightning enter

(lowercase i)

[enter math mode] Esc I = Meta I doesn't get me nowhere. M-i is
'insert inactive markup'.

With insert inactive markup what I get is a "kind of" underscore
symbol with bent edges. Is that a font problem?

<lightning> (in blue)
_ (when activated)

Álvaro.
