I updated my machine, and I still have the problem. I am not quite
sure that it is a Kernel issue, since when I use the Texmacs 1.0.7.7
binary on an ubuntu 10.04 system, I have the same problem, but if I
use the 1.0.7.3 version there are no problems whatsoever.

The problem remains a mystery... Do you remember what package was the
one that you updated?

Thanks.
