Yes, the default LaTeX behaviour is kind of confusing (as often
with LaTeX), since the shape changes when switching to bold.

I implemented some special math font variants in the past,
but removed them, because they were also unsatisfactory from
various other points of view.

I just commited some changes which restores this previous behaviour
in an improved way: you may simply select Font -> Shape -> Upright
in order to do what you want.

However, the really correct way to deal with this kind of things
is to interpret bold upright symbols as special symbols,
and not as standard symbols in a fancy font. This requires to
add several Unicode characters to TeXmacs, which is somewhat
a hassle for me right now, but on the todo list.
