yes it looks like my problem
i have this :

Attachment: PastedGraphic-1.pdf
Description: Adobe PDF document

(attachment)
the brackets do enlarge if inside the brackets there is for example a
fraction as in the right example
but they do stayl too little in the left example, thought the 1/2 and 2/3
would lead the user i am to expect more height.
i have disabled like you
the problem remains the same if, instead of typing [ in maths mode, i
manually select the item [ for oprening and ] for closing in the menus
i obtain the same with a vertical bar (too little)
in fact i am not sure it is really a pb
i would expcet the bracket to modify their size in fonction of what they
contain, sure, but also what they "wear" outside with _ and ^
maybe i am wrong to expect this, i dont know
