Does it work to enter "\\" as in LaTeX? When you type the first \ you'll be in macro entry mode, then type the second \ and press enter. If you are at the end of the line with nothing behind it, nothing seems to happen. Type some more text, and it will appear on the next line, which is spaced as though part of the same paragraph.
