Yes, but you only open an empty window, while the "load in new window..." in the icon menu, create the window and load the file. The scheme command is "(open-buffer-in-window buf cnt attrs)" (cf help file window-api.en.tm), it should be possible to add a custom menu with that (and file selection dialog).

Thanks for the tip. I don't have a "Menu" toolbar, but View --> Open New Window works for me (and then Cmd - ` tabs between windows). The keyboard shortcut for opening a new window in OS X is Cmd - Shift - N.Best,MichaelOn Thu, Aug 6, 2015 at 1:07 PM, Alexandre Dezotti <address@hidden> wrote:This is not in the file menu that's probably why you can't find it. It is in the menu load associated to the icon on the toolbar. Doesn't seem to have a keyboard shortcut associated.2015-08-06 17:31 GMT+02:00 Fan Zhang <address@hidden>:May sounds stupid, but how do you open a new window? On Aug 6, 2015, at 11:28, Alexandre Dezotti <address@hidden> wrote:Alexandre.Best,Side note:Indeed, when I succeed in opening two files in the same window (see below), the go->back/forward commands are disabled. I don't know when those menus are supposed to be accessible.Hi,I always open files in a new window. As I said in a previous message, the buffer system is not too handy for me.
Sometimes when I try to open a new file on top of another one (rather quickly?), the dialog does not appear (Menu File->load produces no result). I had a similar problem when opening in new window. That is a well known bug. A workaround for the "new window bug", which is to pretend linking a file to make the "open file" dialog reappear, does not seem to work here... I probably should file a new bug?---------- Forwarded message ----------

To: Alexandre Dezotti <address@hidden>Hi, Alex,Oh, I think I meant buffers. When I open a file by File -> Load, I do get a new buffer, not a window, yes? Because I didn’t see a new window opens. If I’m correct, then Go -> Back doesn't works for me to cycle through opened buffers. Any idea?-FanOn Aug 6, 2015, at 03:38, Alexandre Dezotti <address@hidden> wrote:Alexandre.Best,Hi,I think there is a misunderstanding, you are probably talking about buffers rather than actual windows. Am I right?2015-08-06 3:54 GMT+02:00 Michael Snarski <address@hidden>:@ Fan Zhang, I have the same problem: I can select different windows under "Go --> file.tm" but cannot use Cmd - [ or ] (ever).@ Alexandre Dezotti's comment, do you mean the character ` ? If so, unfortunately produces a character on OS X. Any workaround? All the best,MichaelOn Tue, Jul 21, 2015 at 5:55 AM, Alexandre Dezotti <address@hidden> wrote:Hi all,I wish Texmacs implemented tabs, like in so many programs (gedit, firefox, thunderbird, kile, nautilus...). I find the current buffer system a bit disconcerting. As for me i use Alt-(the key above tab) for switching between different windows, but that's only because I am using gnome.2015-07-21 0:11 GMT+02:00 Fan Zhang <address@hidden>:Hi, All,
Have you guys ever experienced the case where "Go -> Back & Forward (Cmd ])" doesn’t work? It’s grayed out in my case, and now I have to switch among files by mouse, which is annoying. What’s the possible reason that? And what’s the best practice to manage multiple opened files, like using Tab?
