Yes, but you only open an empty window, while the "load in new window..." in the icon menu, create the window and load the file. The scheme command is "(open-buffer-in-window buf cnt attrs)" (cf help file window-api.en.tm), it should be possible to add a custom menu with that (and file selection dialog).

Thanks for the tip. I don't have a "Menu" toolbar, but View --> Open New Window works for me (and then Cmd - ` tabs between windows). The keyboard shortcut for opening a new window in OS X is Cmd - Shift - N.

Indeed, when I succeed in opening two files in the same window (see below), the go->back/forward commands are disabled. I don't know when those menus are supposed to be accessible.

Side note:
Sometimes when I try to open a new file on top of another one (rather quickly?), the dialog does not appear (Menu File->load produces no result). I had a similar problem when opening in new window. That is a well known bug. A workaround for the "new window bug", which is to pretend linking a file to make the "open file" dialog reappear, does not seem to work here... I probably should file a new bug?

Oh, I think I meant buffers. When I open a file by File -> Load, I do get a new buffer, not a window, yes? Because I didn’t see a new window opens. If I’m correct, then Go -> Back doesn't works for me to cycle through opened buffers. Any idea?
