I have been trying to do something similar, accept with eqnarry tables.
Just how do you "select a table and create the macro from it"....?

First create a table and format its header to your needs. Then select this
table and create the macro from it. Tables created with this macro will have
the header formated as the original table (At least it worked for me...).
