With look and feel set to emacs, highlight some text with the mouse or with Ctrl-space (sets the highlight start point) and arrow keys to move to the other end of what you want highlighted, then push esc w, move to where you want it pasted, then push Ctrl-y.
With look and feel set to CUA, use the Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v for copy and paste. Ctrl-arrow probably highlights. I use emacs.
