This is a very common issue, imho. I would like to vote to try to come up with a standard way of implementing this “going up one level”. Note that this also could come up in nested lists.

The markup should reflect the meaning. In particular, both usual way to do it are less than perfect in this respect:
1) If one uses two different list environments, then the fact that they are related is only implicit in the hack of not resetting the counter
2) If one use one list, then the inserted text is no different from an item (or a part of an item) from the current semantic perspective.

Maybe we can come up with a “\unitem” tag, which take some material and revert it to the outer formatting, all within a list environment. A complete solution could be difficult (what if inside an \unitem we start a new list??) but a partial implementation for the most common uses should not be too difficult.

What do you think?

Best
Max

Bonjour Vincent,
A simple solution is to do separate lists, the last two ones starting at indices different from 1.
If you need help in setting up the initial counter for the list, send me your best guess privately and I will do my best to help.
An alternative approach is to revert to the standard margins temporarily from within the list. This is actually a cleaner solution, albeit a little more difficult one to set up.

hi
i have such a list (picture) :
<PastedGraphic-7.png>
both sentences "On pose désormais..." and "Soit C'(O',r') un autre cercle..." would, in my opinion, be better if no indented, at the same level than the beginning (firts sentence) : "C cercle de centre O et de rayon..."
How can i "surf" outside and inside the list, being left-aligned on the left margin for general text, and 1 tab aligned for numeroted questions ?
