TeXmacs has very nice facilities for dealing with different versions
of a document, but where do the versions come from? Is the idea that
the user occasionally saves doc.tm as doc-1.tm, doc-2.tm, etc., or
something similar?
This decision is up to the user, since different people have different habits.
Yes, you can do as you suggest. Another common use pattern is to
put your file under svn, git, or another external versioning program.
In that case you may compare different svn/git/... versions.
Oh; I thought that TeXmacs had to be given file names to compare, but
it can just use the different version numbers. And you can commit
through TeXmacs, too!
