Robert, Denis, Philippe, thank you for your messages
i will take to time to go to her and follow your tipps
i will then tell you

the only point i keep in mind as an interrogation is : if i have to download something and make it executable, why is the executable file itself not proposed for direct downloading ? I mean i will be able to chmod+x it but she won't if i am not there ; so if other ubuntu users want texmacs, do they first need to have little knowledge in informatics ?

Hi Vincent,

The simplest way to get TeXmacs going on linux is probably to use the Appimage
I make:

https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/slowphil:/texmacs-devel/AppImage/texmacs-latest-x86_64.AppImage

There is no package to install: Download the file, make it executable and run
it. As simple as that.

So, the only complication is that the user needs to change the property of the
downloaded file to make it excecutable. That depends on her desktop, but I
guess that in the file manager it is something like : right-click on the file,
select "properties" then the "permissions" tab and mark the check box
"Authorize the file to run as a program" ("autoriser l'exécution du fichier
comme un programme"). Of course, that operation can also be done from the
command line: chmod +x <path to the downloaded Appimage>  (drag and drop the
file in the terminal to get the correct file path)

best,
Philippe
