Not that is the intended behavior. Unfortunately, at least in Ubuntu 10.04
and variants, this kind of tab switching is not working anymore from 1.0.7.3
onwards, if started from the desktop menu or via click on file. Starting from
command line or via launcher app (kupfer in may case) does not see this
problem.

Lukasz Stafiniak has posted this bug earlier (in May) on this list.
