It's not difficult, but it's not trivial. To do this you must look
for "page-the-page" and "render-as" in the Documentation (Help > Search >
Documentation). Basically you must redefine how the page number will be
render. To do that we will use page-the-page. We will user "number" to show
the number in roman (i, ii...), Roman (I, II...), alpha (a,b...) or Alpha (A,
B...).
Probably there is a better way to do this, but this is the only way I could
think. If you know how to write a macro in TeXmacs, you will find this
explanation too long. But I'm not, so I write it assuming that the reader has
the same level of knowledge as me. Let's go:
1. Go to the beginning of the document.
2. Document > View > Edit source tree (That is go to the menu, click
on "Document", then "View",...) We will do this in the Source Tree View. The
first time you use it is a little bit scary but you will get used to it.
3. Source > Definition > Assign (or click on the ":=" icon > Assign). You
will
view "<assign||>" in blue inside a light blue box.
4. Type "page-the-page" (without the ""). It will be written in green and in
italics.
5. Now, press once the right cursor key.
6. Source > Macro > Macro (or click on the Lambda icon > Macro). You will see
on the screen "<assign|page-the-page|<macro|>>". The "<macro|>" will be in a
a light blue box inside the previous one.
7. Source > Macro > Compound (or Lambda icon > Compound)
8. Type "number" (without the "") and press TAB key once.
9. Source > Definition > Value
10. Type "page-nr", press once the right cursor key and press once the TAB
key.
11. Type "Roman" (roman, alpha or Alpha). Now you will see on the
screen "<assign|page-the-page|<macro|<number|page-nr|Roman>>>"
12. Document > View > Edit source tree (to go to the normal view).
Now, the page number will be "I, II, III...". If you wanted to change it
to "roman", you should go to the "Edit source tree" view and just change
Roman for roman.
This is an example of how macros can be used in TeXmacs to customice your
documents. Please, let me know if any part of this message is wrong or
unclear. If it were OK, could it be part of the FAQ?
Best regards,
Javier
