I strongly suggest against mixing Debian and Kubuntu. They might work in the 
short run. But in the long run, there would be a lot of problems. The thing 
is Debian and Kubuntu might be source compatible. But they are not binary 
compatible.

If you like Debian, install debian from the get go. If you like Kubuntu, just 
stick to Kubuntu. Even in Debian, I strongly advice against mixing 
stable/testing/unstable distributions ... YMMV.
