I just happened to be wondering the same thing this evening, and was about to
write to the list asking a similar question when I saw this email. My
interest is in creating keybindings for a plugin, and I do not know how I can
create them and be certain that they will not clash with default keybindings.
(Let alone avoiding clashes with both the Windows- and emacs-style
look-and-feel settings!)
One of my uncertainties is that I do not know if there is an etiquette or
scheme for claiming a new key combo for a new purpose. Are there certain
wildcards/prefixes that are reserved for certain uses? Are there certain keys
that should be left for the user to customize? (F1-F12? Others?) Are there
certain prefixes that are encouraged for plugins? (I try to bind my commands
to sequences like 'C-h v b', but the 'C-h' appears as text until I type the
'v', and remains if I instead type something that has not been bound.)
I confess that I find the help system to be very difficult to navigate; there
is always the nagging suspicion, when browsing, that there is some
documentation that I might have missed. I usually only find answers when I am
lucky enough to choose the right keyword for a search, and that has not worked
for these questions.
