Edit your source list file. The file is

/etc/apt/sources.list

Add a line to add a debian repository like

deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ lenny main non-free contrib
(It is best to choose to a repository nearest to you)

Save the file. As root (I guess you use sudo in Ubuntu) type
In Debian I do:
apt-get update
apt-get install texmacs

In Ubuntu you probably need to do
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install texmacs

There may be some problems because of the conflicts with the already installed packages. Lenny is the stable version of Debian while Ubuntu is derived from testing version which is known as squeeze. But give a try. If it does not work, come back again.

so i feel lost, i really need texmacs this week end to .. just do my work
i precise that i never find any simple solution to install texmacs on my snow
leopard; under tiger or leopard it was simple bur for snow the texmacs pages
seemd to say there were some problems
can anyone help me ?
i have internet just this afternoon
