I installed the portable version in a windows computer in campus. It
crashes after typing a back slash. Maxima does not work, possibly due
to a previous install of Maxima.

The computer uses Windows XP professional service pack 3.

I think that a zip file instead of a .tgz would be easier for Windows users.
