(I accidentally sent my previous reply to Martial only, sorry about that)

Because:

1) I didn't know about it :)
2) It doesn't seem practical (this was before I saw Lukasz's post)
3) The doteq/shortcut was already there in TeXmacs, it was just that the (virtual) font wasn't defined.
4) I actually bumped into this while doing a LaTeX import. So TeXmacs should really know what to do with \doteq to do a proper import.
