Well that's strange: Mint18 is essentially Ubuntu 16.04 for which Marc said it
works well (and I have tested it too on ubuntu 16.04).
You also say that if you compile from the current svn it is unstable too,
which does not match my own experience on linux mint 18 (unless I hack in
scheme; in that case i's really easy to crash texmacs).
Could it be that something got corrupted in your .TeXmacs folder? If renaming
that folder does not make any difference, could you please make a bug report
for a reproducible crash?
