I faced similar problem with maxima session (Ubuntu 8.04 as well). 1.0.7-2 package built from debian source works fine for me.

Strange, I cannot reproduce the problem on my MacOS X laptop.
You guys may try to debug the situation by launching TeXmacs using

The problem is present in 1.0.6.11-2 package for Ubuntu-8.04 Hardy Heron. I don't see it in 1.0.7-2 that I built myself from debian source files.

Do you think the log and session files will be helpful for you although the bug seems to be fixed?
