I'd suggest to wrap the lines of text you want to hide in a table (for
instance, wide tabular) and then apply the phantom tag to that table. It
won't work if the text you want to hide starts in the middle of a
paragraph, though.

Also, you may consider using the "specific" tag to differentiate the
on-screen rendering and the rendering in the pdf (=printer).
