Hi all,

Does anyone know how can I write Greek monotononic/polytonic in TeXmacs?
Maybe there are some fonts I can download?

Please take a look at CTAN; you should find what you need there and
we do support these fonts in TeXmacs.

Thanks for answering.

I'm currently reading some piece of documentation about TeX generally, how this typesetting system works, about CTAN, metafont etc. I downloaded some greek fonts and I'll try to install them

It would be nice if you could contact the maintainer of teTeX
(Thomas Esser) in order to suggest him to include these fonts
in the standard distribution. This is also important in order to
have upright Greek characters which are often preferred by physicists.

Good idea and easy thing to do.
I don't know if Thomas Esser will take seriously my suggestion, maybe he will. But it would also be a very nice idea for the TeXmacs team to include greek fonts in their additional-fonts-package.

If you want us to add support for the Greek language inside TeXmacs
(more than only the fonts), then please let us know; in that case,
we would need translations of all menu items (a few days work).

The basic need right now is to manage to read and write Greek monotonic (Modern Greek) and polytonic (Ancient Greek). A Greek TeXmacs enviroment though, would surely make TeXmacs more popular in my country, Greece.

If TeXmacs acquires the greek reading/typing ability and a greek translated menu, I'd be personally willing to notify this to some relative greek mailing lists. There is a noteworthy number of greek unix users who would appreciate such a program, especially students and professors of our Univerisities.

my regards

Dimitris T.
