Hi there,
I'm forwarding to TM-users an email that I sent some days ago to Lenny,
Mandrake's TeXmacs packager, from whom I got no response.

Maybe TM users can help :)

Hi Lenny,

I'm Daniele, a TeXmacs user and MDK translator/contributor.

I'd like to point out some strange things that happen when I run TeXmacs
(version 1.0.3.3-1mdk) on Mandrake Linux.

As on the TeXmacs-users ML nobody has been complaining about this issue, I
guess it is a packaging problem, and that's why I'm writing to you rather
than Joris and the TM guys.

So, let me get to the point.

This is the output of xmodmap, before I run TM (italian keymap, configured
via drakkeyboard):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock Caps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_L (0x7d), Meta_L (0x9c)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4 Super_L (0x7f), Hyper_L (0x80)
mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)

If run TM from the console, this is what I get:

[daniele@xp2000 daniele]$ texmacs

TeXmacs] loading ecrm11 at 300 dpi
TeXmacs] With linked TrueType support
TeXmacs] Loading english-italian.scm
TeXmacs] Loading hyphen.us
TeXmacs] loading ecrm10 at 600 dpi
TeXmacs] Loading hyphen.italian

So, it seems that nothing strange is going on, but after fter running TM
(language="Italian"), xmodmap output changes to:

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Super_L (0x73), Super_L (0x7f), Super_R (0x74)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4 Caps_Lock (0x42)
mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)

And if I run TM (language="English"), it becomes:

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Super_L (0x73), Super_L (0x7f), Super_R (0x74)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3 Caps_Lock (0x42)
mod4 Caps_Lock (0x42)
mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)

Furher more, after TeXmacs's execution cicling windows in KDE (ALT+Tab)
becomes nasty, as the window-list widget doesn't disappear when I release the
ALT key; I rather have to hit a key to send it away, and run keyboarddrake to
definitely restore the normal behaviour.

Whithin TM itself, the problem is that it is impossibile to use many of the
shortcuts, also if I manually map each key to the proper modifier whithin the
application, as my modifiers are messed up the the program itself.

I hope I've managed to be clear enough, thanks for your kind attention

Daniele Pighin
