which version are you using?I have installed ibus-qt4,
and try again but no lucky for me!

$ texmacs &
can't activate,

$ LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.utf8 texmacs &
can't activate

$  QT_IM_MODULE=ibus texmacs &
can't activate

$ LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.utf8  QT_IM_MODULE=ibus texmacs &

still can't activate

May be this information is useful for debuging, see below:

qide@inspiron:~$ QT_IM_MODULE=ibus texmacs &

When I try "Control + space" to activate ibus, I get this information
"kebord shortcut: C-space" on TeXmacs. I have changed the keybord
shotcut to "Control+Shift+space", and try other input method(fcitx-pinyin), 
but
still can't activate.
