Hello all,

Every week, I receive several messages of people who want
to use TeXmacs on Windows. We indeed have plans to port TeXmacs
to this OS, but since I am not an expert on Windows (I actually
do not have any machine running it), this work mainly depends
on volunteers.

The best way to port TeXmacs would be to port the abstract
interface for X to a graphical toolkit like Gtk, Qt or GNUstep
(some documentation by David Allouche is available at
ftp://ftp.texmacs.org/pub/TeXmacs/misc/Source-doc.tar.gz).

However, since a year or so, not much progress has been made,
so I would like to know whether there are people who tried to
compile TeXmacs using Cygwin and its implementation of
XFree86 for Windows:

http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/xfree

If not, maybe someone might try hard to do so.
Although this solution would not be the ideal one
(it presupposes the installation of the Cygwin tools under Windows),
it would nevertheless be very useful: we could for instance make
a CD with TeXmacs and the Cygwin tools on it, which might be ordered
via the web. Such a solution would for instance be OK for people
who want to deploy TeXmacs at schools or universities.

Thanks, Joris
