You have probably just upgraded GhostScript.

There is a known (and critical) problem with gs-8 which was reported
first by Fink users. The only known workaround at the moment is to
send a SIGINT to GhostScript (i.e. press Ctrl-C in the terminal in
which you started texmacs). Things will then proceed normally.

I suspect we are having a deadlock situation related to the X protocol
and the fact that texmacs runs gs synchronously (used the "system"
call). That is just a speculation at the moment, but that is backed by
the fact that M. Costabel reported that gs was stuck in "select",
which is typical of deadlock situations.

Try downgrading GhostScript for the moment.

PS: I find all those synchronous calls using "system" quite ugly, but
that is probably just one more of my "personal obsessions".
