O.K. Jean Paul and Robert Musil does not convince you. ;-)

So have a look at the Duden, Richtlinien für den Schriftsatz,
Anführungszeichen:

"Im deutschen Schriftsatz werden vornehmlich die Anführungszeichen
,,...`` und >>...<< sowie ihre einfachen Formen ,...` und >...<
>>angewendet.

This means: especially used are ,,...`` and >>..<< etc.

I am quite sure that in 90% of all printed books >>..<< are used. They
look better.

If there is a note somewhere in the docs that I can reach these by
typing [>>] and [<<] or [TAB >] and [TAB <] I am completely satisfied.
