Dear M Singh,

Without really wanting to go into the discussion. Let me just give my 
personal 
experience using texmacs (and LyX before) to write scientific articles.

I use texmacs because:
1) it saves time writing the article and 
2) the pleasure it gives me writing the article. 
As for publishers requiring you to use their style-file: it would indeed be 
nice to have these style in texmacs (write to the publishers stating this!). 
However texmacs produces very clean latex, so all I had to do at the end is 
export to latex and change \documentclass{amsart} into another style.
