In Debian Etch, texmacs depends upon tetex. We have updated this
dependencies to texlive from Lenny onwards. So, if you upgrade the system
to Lenny then you can live without tetex!

tetex is good enough if you are using Etch (the current stable version). But
tetex is being replaced by texlive from Lenny onwards. The transition
should work out automatically when users upgrade their systems. If there
are any problems upgrading from texmacs on Etch to texmacs on Lenny, then
that would be a bug. Please let us know if anyone is facing that issue.
