Hi,

I was about to install TeXmacs for the first time since switching Linux
distros. But Synaptic wanted to resolve the dependencies with teTeX and
remove the newer TeX Live. I don't usually ignore dependencies or force
installs. What to do?

What is your distribution? The word synaptic makes me think it is a Debian
based distribution. But other than that I can't figure out much.

Texmacs in Debian should work fine with texlive.

Thanks, raju.

What a silly mistake not mentioning my distro! I thought TeXmacs either would work with any tex package or it wouldn't.

I'm on Mepis 7 which is binary compatible with Etch. I think I will stay with Etch, because I just want stability.

Would it not be possible for TeXmacs to pick up any tex distribution that is installed? Like LyX does. Often people have various programs installed that need tweaking. I've been tweaking my LyX setup (or trying to!) for a while. And now I have to revert back to tetex to set up TeXmacs. Not a complaint. But maybe it would help people who have things set up a certain way. But I know little about this stuff...

Thanks,
Ryan
