Certainly, those instructions were not so clear to me. Up to now, the only
"control" file that I was aware of was the .dsc file (after
http://wiki.debian.org/dsc "Debian source control file"). So, for me, you 
meant
editing it. Now, because of your observations, I think that you meant another
file literally named "control" under the debian subdirectory.

What is unreasonable is largely subjective, and depends on each 
background. I have had no experience on this particular procedure or 
knowledge on what each of these commands really do. So my best guess was 
executing again the command producing the error.

You do not say which is that "simple but important command". Then, I will try 
again
from "dpkg-source ..."

Artisans, mainly, learn empirically, by trial an error, accumulating 
experience
along their lives.
