Hi,
I made various contribs to the translation of the documentation of
TeXmacs in spanish, and try to get a consistent style reviewing the
previous contribs. In think also that translation is better with few
authors and a better infraestructure.
In the moment I wanted to coordinate the labour with the development of
TeXmacs i need to learn svn and make commits from my machine, but I was
off-line almost all the time, so it was not a posibility and I dont
wanted going on that learning curve. Rosetta and Lauchpad make things
easier for contribs, but they're based in *.po files. So the first thing
that we would need will be generation of po files from TeXmacs
documentation files. This would make the coordination of translations
easier. You could see a translation in progress about using "po for
all", aka po4a, (with references to the original doc) in:
http://www.el-directorio.org:8080/po4a
also a reflexion on the translation difficults is in "T o w a r d a
c e n t r a l t r a n s l a t i o n r e p o s i t o r y":
http://graal.ens-lyon.fr/~mquinson/l10n_rant_repo.html
I think that we need a way to coordinate efforts in easy and low
burocracy way and sourceforge, savanna and so on, are not perhaps the
best way to make it. I would think in something more "wiki way". but
enhanced and extended, like trac:

Cheers,
Offray

I should have updated it. However, I never found the time. The current
way to do the translation, explained somewhere in the website, is
quite easy. It is very important to preserve a certain degree of
consistency in the translation, so either it is a task for a single
person or for a closely coordinated team. I'd be happy to hand this
work over to you, at the present moment too many undone tasks populate
my calendar to commit myself to the task.
The problem is all we have quite busy schedules and sometimes it's quite
hard to find time to do these kind of things. I think the only solution is
to find ways to ease the collaboration. Obviously some degree of quality
must be assured. I didn't check Rosetta much, but I'm quite sure that it
has mechanisms to let review the quality of translations. Although, maybe
you're right and the solution is just to form and small but active
translation team.
