Ok, I found a way to type Japanese normally. So, to complete the steps:

1. Download some Japanese font family (I tried with SourceHanSansJP-VF.ttf
and Google Noto Sans Japanese)
2. Put the font in ~/.TeXmacs/fonts/truetype
3. Run "texmacs --delete-font-cache"

4. Go to the Document font selector in "Document → Font..." menu
5. Click on the "Import..." button
6. Pick the font downloaded in step 1 and press Ok button
7. Exit TeXmacs (no need to save anything)
8. Start texmacs normally again

9. Select the imported font as the "Main document font":
9.1. Click the "Main document font" button in the lowermost toolbar (assuming
default TeXmacs GUI layout)
9.2. Click on "Other..."
9.3. Select your font in the "Family" list.
9.4. Click "Ok" button

Now, in my case, I can type Spanish, English and Japanese in the same
document.

All these steps are too much, though, so I'll check if I can get rid of all
of them by just installing any of the fonts expected by TeXmacs, which Darcy
pointed out in a previous message
(https://github.com/texmacs/texmacs/blob/5d024ee8ec10160e5af3960db90b4d05e1256bc9/src/Graphics/Fonts/font.cpp#L597-L618).

At this point, I can already add TeXmacs to my tools, so thanks again for
working on it.
