Thanks for this. It looks like it might simplify the task of making a live USB drive.

With the new ubuntu, you can easily build your usb distro with
persistant mode : when you do changes on your usbkey, the next time you
use it, the changes are still there. It could be files on your desktop
or new installed packages.

I am not sure wether unetbootin you can have persistent mode.
