After trying again, removing that entry did indeed fix the problem. Thanks!

This does not corresponds to my experience. I've just tested by making a copy
of your references.bib file and changing *only* the entry for Oikawa into
@Article{Oikawa1960,
author = {K\^otaro Oikawa},
title = {Sario's Lemma on Harmonic Functions},
journal = {Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society},
year = {1960},
volume = {11},
number = {3},
pages = {425-428},
owner = {crow},
timestamp = {2008.09.09},
}
and regenerating the biblio with style tm-plain and it works for me. So I
guess you are doing something not quite correct. Seems to me that the only
problem was in that entry.

ps: I'm using the current svn version of TeXmacs but this very likely should
not affect the outcome.

I tried removing many entries and never got it to work, however switching to

which probably contains UTF-8 characters and confuses the procedure which
converts the bib file into a TeXmacs tree. Removing it seems fix the problem
locally (I didn't do a complete check so there may be more entries causing
further problems).
I will post a bug report for this. In the mean-time just modify the entry to
use TeX conventions for non-ASCII characters.

Dear Stephen,
As a temporary workaround you could try to use Bibtex to parse the
bibliography instead of TeXmacs' internal parser, which is used for
styles starting with "tm-". So, if I change the style from "tm-plain"
to "plain" (and refresh) the author names show up.
Best wishes,
Jeroen

Seems indeed a bug, something in the bibliography file is disturbing
TeXmacs' generation of the biblio. I will give a look.

Thank you all but despite the wonderful suggestions the problem of
missing author names persists after trying many style variations.
Is there something wrong with the references.bib file perhaps?

Perhaps in the drop-down list that appears when clicking on the

have in mind that I saw a forum post by Max Gubinelli on that,

not think the bibliography style is the reason for the names not
appearing.
